This Mercedes Benz E250 CGI came into the workshop with a cooling system that definitely wasn’t looking healthy.

As you can see from the photo, the coolant reservoir was heavily contaminated with engine oil, creating that thick, muddy brown sludge.

Engine oil and coolant are designed to stay completely separate. When they start mixing, it usually means there’s a problem somewhere in the engine’s oil/cooling system — in this case, we’re investigating the oil cooler and associated seals.

The good news? The engine oil itself was still clean, which gave us an important clue in diagnosing the fault.

Once the source of the contamination is repaired, the cooling system will need thorough cleaning and multiple flushes to remove the oil that has circulated throughout the system.

Another good example of why regular servicing and proper diagnosis matter. 🔧
