Hybrid vehicles may look similar to conventional petrol cars, but there's considerably more to servicing one than changing the engine oil. We put a 2024 Toyota Corolla Ascent Hybrid with approximately 25,000km on the hoist to look at the hybrid-specific systems, including the HV battery cooling system and its often-overlooked intake filter.

A beautifully maintained 2005 Hyundai Tucson arrived at AutoSavvy Mechanical on a tilt tray after suddenly refusing to start. With the engine cranking but not firing, several possible faults had to be considered. Careful testing and research eventually identified the problem as a failed main relay that had stopped supplying power to the ECU.
