A 2010 Isuzu D-Max came into the workshop today with a failed clutch, and what should have been a fairly straightforward clutch replacement turned into one of those jobs that puts a mechanic’s patience to the test.

Getting the old clutch out wasn’t quite as simple as expected. Seized bolts, a bent pin and plenty of stubborn hardware made the job considerably more challenging, but after working through the problems we were able to remove the clutch assembly and get everything apart.

With the clutch removed, we inspected the flywheel and found it needed machining before the new clutch could be fitted. The flywheel has now been machined and is ready for the new clutch assembly.

Once the new clutch is installed, we’ll reassemble everything, carry out the necessary checks and road test the D-Max to make sure everything is operating as it should.

It’s a good example of why clutch replacement isn’t always just a matter of swapping a few parts. The condition of the flywheel and the hardware surrounding the clutch can make a big difference to the quality and longevity of the repair.

Another D-Max getting some well-earned attention at Autosavvy Mechanical in Noosaville.
